tivo and the olympics

One of the many advantages TiVo holds over the standard cable/satellite company DVR is its Olympic programming.

I’ve watched the Olympics for a while. The earliest I remember watching is back in 1988 (which probably has more to do with Greg Louganis smacking the crap out of his head on the diving board than anything else), although my mother tells me I saw the Miracle on Ice in 1980 (I was five) and Mary Lou Retton scoring a perfect ‘10′ in 1984.

If she says so.

Anyway, the thing that has annoyed me most about watching, though, is having to sit through all the events I couldn’t care less about to see those I do.

TiVo has changed all that.

I went to their special Olympics page and selected the sports I wanted to watch, and that was that. My TiVo will automatically record soccer, softball, beach volleyball, swimming and gymnastics and I don’t have to remember to record them (or get up at, like, 3 a.m. to watch).

It’s awesome.

(And I can still fast-forward through any extraneous stuff. Like the US women’s soccer team choking against Norway.)

TiVo — the only way to watch the Olympics.
