end of volume one

I followed up the Veronica finale with three episodes of Heroes, which means I’m finally caught up.

Okay, I tend not to write much about Heroes. I think it’s a really original, well-written, mesmerizing show, but it’s also, for me, the equivalent of a jam-packed, intense superhero movie. I love it, I look forward to watching, I usually will watch again, but there’s not a whole lot to analyze.

And the dialogue can border on corny.

Anyway, so “The Hard Part,” “Landslide,” and “How To Stop an Exploding Man” were all fantastic episodes. I had planned on watching them earlier, but I recorded the second half marathon on Sci Fi on Saturday so my sister could catch up, and the bad thing about my DVD recorder is that it can only record real-time. So basically I’ve been rewatching since “Godsend.”

Some brief thoughts:

1. I wish they’d just let Sylar be dead. We all know he was a bad-ass. We all know there was a bit of humanity underneath all the mother-inspired power-tripping, and we all understood him a bit better after The Snow Globe Incident. Great. Fine. Whatever. But he’s run his course. What else could he possibly do? They should let him be dead, and, like other superhero movies, resurrect a new Big Bad. Like the one who can see Molly whenever she tries to find him. That was ominous. And also foreshadowing.

2. The last little bit about Hiro and 1670 was…weird. I’m not sure how I feel about that.

3. I really can’t stand the Petrelli family. Well, I mean. Peter’s okay, but I HATE HIS HAIR. And also Milo Ventimiglia reminds me of a rat. He has a very rodent-like quality. At least Nathan finally redeemed himself in the end. But that mother. Yikes.

4. I have to say, I finally didn’t hate Jessica/Niki for a change. It was cool to see them integrate — for Jessica to let Niki take over so she didn’t kill DL, and later, for Niki to realize she’s strong after all so she could beat the hell out of Candice.

5. I still think Candice’s power is way cool.

6. Claire is still my favorite of the heroes, and I’m glad she was reunited with her dad. Noah. (Go figure.) Who would’ve thought I’d be singing his praises? (“Company Man” may still be my favorite episode of this season.)

7. Molly’s cute. I’m guessing she’ll be around next season.

8. Ummm….I think I’m out.

All in all, a really fabulous freshman season.

But I still think LOST is far superior.

(More on that later.)
