(And Carlton Cuse. But then the title would’ve been too long.)
Dear Damon and Carlton:
I love you.
That is all.
Love, Jen
Short, sweet, and to the point.
Also? They’ve both turned me into a wildly suspicious, untrusting conspiracy theorist. I’m not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing, but at any rate, I did something after watching “D.O.C.” that I’ve never done before: I wrote down what “Naomi” said and translated it from Portuguese thanks to the trusty folks at Babelfish.
Let’s just say Mikhail lied to The Three Musketeers. (Surely nobody thought she was really who she said she was, right? C’mon. It’s Lost. When has anyone ever told the truth about anything?)
Anyway, after Mikhail patches (hee) her up, she tells him “I am not alone.” He in turn translates it as simply, “thank you.”
This is the manipulation d’jour for Desmond. If anything, these Others know their information, and they use it to manipulate the castaways into doing their bidding. Of course Desmond is going to fall into their trap if they play on his Penny guilt/love/more guilt. I like how Sayid pointedly asked if anyone had actually seen the helicoptor. It’s good to know there are still some smart people among the beach dwellers.
Moving on to “The Brig.”
Good frakking grief. I still so do not like Locke, I actually like Sawyer now (and even didn’t feel sick to my stomach watching him with Kate), and Ben is the most evil person on the face of whatever earth they’re on.
Let me see if I can attempt to streamline my thoughts:
1. They’re not in purgatory, or hell. The “real” 815 was either a total lie by Naomi and The Others and fed to Anthony Cooper, or else it was a plant to satisfy the NTSB or whomever — I mean, as Naomi said, the wreckage was conveniently found four miles down inside an oceanic trench in which only mechanical robots could investigate.
2. I’m not really fond of Jack and Juliet at the moment. Jack has officially become whipped. Unless that cryptic little exchange (“I think we should tell her.” “No, not yet.”) has something to do with a triple-cross on Juliet’s part. In which caseĀ I would love them both again.
3. I knew Anthony Cooper was the real Sawyer. Which isn’t exactly a revelation, since I’m sure everyone has known that all along. But whatever. He was one evil SOB, and not that murder is right, but let’s just say if I was on that jury, I’d vote to acquit Sawyer. James. Whatever.
4. Ben and Richard (whom I find really attractive, btw) totally good cop/bad cop’d Locke into killing Cooper. How is Locke so guillible, I ask?
5. I have never thought “the box” was real. But apparently other people really thought that there was this magic box on the island and poof! magic stuff appeared (really? people really thought that?) and so D&C had to stick that little meta bit about it being a metaphor in so people would stop being so confused. Sigh.
6. There really is a very Lord of the Flies-ish throw-down brewing. And the previews for the remaining episodes totally gave me the chills.
Again, I ask — how can anyone doubt the genius of this show? (And no, the contingent of nay-sayers who have just conveniently done an about-face in recent weeks don’t count.)
Patience is a virtue, and Damon and Carlton continue to prove that.
