I can’t write about Monday yet, because, like Erin, I need to go back and watch a couple of the last episodes, and then rewatch this week’s.
So I’ll briefly talk about Veronica Mars.
What a great return episode. Not too much going on plot-wise — at least this go-round’s main mystery (who killed the dean) — but it is definitely up there with my favorite episodes. For one thing, the entire cast was present. Well, except for Lamb, but I’ve never considered him a main character. I know that VM doesn’t have the same budget other shows do, so they…oh crap. Wallace wasn’t there. Um, how did I miss him? Never mind that last train of thought. :)
I am so, so glad that “Show Me the Monkey” was Mac-centric, though. I love Tina Majorino’s portrayal of Mac so much. She’s a perfect (girl) best friend for Veronica. I have liked Parker since the premiere, but I like her even more with every passing week. The three of them stalking Mac’s crush was hilarious.
And oh my gosh, I am so over Logan. I need to get a Team Piz shirt or something. I think the Piz/Logan comparison was deliberate — Logan was shown hanging out with his sleazy friends, and then hooking up with that random sleazy girl, and Piz was shown actually sitting with Veronica, talking to her, being normal and non-sleazy. He is SOO the boy for Veronica. I understand her whole star-crossed dilemma with Logan, but tell me this — how well did the star-crossed thing work for Romeo and Juliet?
That’s one thing I’ve never gotten. I never found Romeo and Juliet to be romantic at all. I thought Juliet was stupid. In fact, I think Meredith Grey summed up my feelings perfectly when she said: “Juliet was an idiot. For one thing, she falls for the one guy she knows she can’t have. Everyone thinks it’s so romantic: Romeo and Juliet, true love, how sad. If Juliet was stupid enough to fall for the enemy, drink a bottle of poison, and go to sleep in a mausoleum, she deserved everything she got.”
Anyway, I digress.
I thought the animals good/curing cancer bad point was laid on a little thick, but the story itself was fun.
Other fun moments:
*Parker, Veronica, and Mac transforming their room into Canada for the Around the World party. Complete with the accents and Barenaked Ladies.
*Parker, Veronica, and Mac tricking that one singer dude into wearing an anti-meat tshirt — and blaming the Zeta Theta Betas.
*Mac asking the cute activist boy (I forget his name) out in a very awkward, nervous way and then going back and kissing him.
*Veronica’s and Piz’s conversation at the end — right before Veronica goes and screws her life up again by going back to Logan.
I think last night was the perfect example of why this show is so stellar in every way. Sure, it delivers the “big” moments, like “A Trip to the Dentist,” “Leave it to Beaver,” “Not Pictured,” and “Spit and Eggs” — but that’s expected. It’s episodes like these, where the overall mystery isn’t advanced all that much, that add to RT’s brilliance, where nothing but the characters, the relationships, and the dialogue are featured.
Although back to the dean’s murder — I knew the Scotch and the Intro to Crim paper about how to commit the perfect murder would come into play…very interesting.
I still don’t have a clue who did it, and I like it that way. I like to sit back and enjoy the unfolding.
Okay I’m going to get something entirely bad for me and watch a whole bunch of Heroes.
