i do the gadgets. you do the actual espionage.

I’ve had a couple people in recent days ask me about Veronica Mars — what it is, why they should watch it, etc.

Ordinarily I would dash off a few quick paragraphs, raving about its intelligence and wit and humor, proclaiming how brilliant Kristen Bell and Jason Dohring are, and how, without Bell, the show would’ve folded after the pilot. (Especially considering it was a UPN show. Yes, you read correctly: UPN.)

But thankfully there are a great number of people way more intelligent than I. (It’s hard to believe, I know, but trust me.)

And so…I will let them speak.

“It’s proof that TV can be way better than movies. It’s phenomenal.” — Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mall Rats, etc.)

“Nothing is harder to pull off than a genuine whodunit, and no show does it better than Veronica Mars.” — Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Serenity)

Veronica Mars blends the prosaic details of high school pecking orders with a solitary detective’s quest for justice and revenge.” — New York Times

“I was just DYING from the mystery and the relationships and PAIN; this show knows from pain.” — Joss Whedon

“I LOVE that show.” — Robert Crais (writer)

“I’m a Veronica Mars whore.” — Kevin Smith

“I fucking love that show.” — Damon Lindelof (Lost)

“…why is Veronica Mars so good?…I can’t take my eyes off the damn thing.” — Stephen King (writer)

“I can no longer restrain myself. Best. Show. Ever.” — Joss Whedon

“Best show you’re not watching.” — TV Guide

I really can’t sum it up any better than that. Kristen Bell makes you inhabit the character of Veronica. You literally feel everything she feels, and because of it, the show could be about…someone grating carrots while singing that creepy Barney song over and over and you’d still watch it. (Okay, so maybe not then…)

Seriously. The Season 2 DVDs come out today. Netflix them or buy them or something, and thank me later. Season 3 begins Tuesday, October 3, on the newly-formed CW network (which is the merging of UPN and The WB), right after Gilmore Girls (another show you should be watching.)

And if that’s not enough, maybe this will convince you:
